1. What is a Linear Actuator JC60DN?

A Linear Actuator with the protection class JC60DN is an electric actuator with an integrated 24V DC motor. The motor's rotary motion drives a spindle inside the actuator tube through a gear mechanism, which in turn moves a running nut in an axial direction. The cylinder tube mounted on the nut then performs the required lifting movement. The enclosure of the motor and spindle-nut assembly achieves protection class IP66. The protection class is defined as follows:

IP: This stands for "Ingress Protection" or "International Protection" and is an international standard that specifies the protection of electrical devices and enclosures against the ingress of solids (e.g., dust) and liquids (e.g., water).

66: These two numbers represent the protection levels against the ingress of dust and water. In this case, IP66 means:

The first "6" stands for protection against the ingress of solid objects and indicates that the Linear Actuator is completely dust-tight. This means that no dust can enter the enclosure, even in large quantities.

The second "6" stands for protection against the ingress of water. A Linear Actuator with IP66 rating is protected against powerful water jets, meaning it is water-resistant and can withstand high-pressure water. It's also protected against rain and splashing water.

2. When is the Linear Actuator JC60DN suitable?

A Linear Actuator is well-suited for environments where dust and moisture could be an issue, such as in industrial settings, damp or wet outdoor environments, food processing, and other demanding applications. The IP66 rating provides assurance that the actuator will operate reliably under these conditions, with no dust or water ingress into the enclosure.

3. Two variants of Actuators are distinguished:

1) Adjustments up to 2,000 N

When the Actuator is adjusted without a load, speeds of up to 20 mm/s can be achieved. Under full load, the Actuator adjusts at 12 mm/s, with the speed-to-load curve being linear.

2) Adjustments up to 6,000 N

To handle higher loads, the gear ratio is increased. Consequently, the Actuator reaches 5 mm/s without load and up to 3 mm/s under load.

4. Additional components and options

The JC60DN Linear Actuator is standardly equipped with a cable with a plug. The plug is used for connecting to a control box. The control box allows multiple cylinders to be controlled simultaneously, and a manual operator can be attached as well. This enables simple applications to be adjusted via manual control. It should be noted that synchronous operation can't be achieved with this setup. Despite starting the lifting movement of multiple actuators simultaneously, they don't necessarily move at the same speed.

5. Typical applications

Linear Actuators are used in a variety of applications where protection against dust and water is crucial.

Here are some typical application areas:

In industrial automation, IP66 Linear Actuators are frequently used to control movements in machines and systems. They provide protection against dust and splash water in factories and production environments.

In the food industry, especially in wet and cleaning areas, IP66 Linear Actuators are essential. They can be used in conveyor systems, packaging machines, and other applications.

In outdoor applications, such as wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, and sewage treatment facilities, IP66 Linear Actuators are required to protect the electronics from rain and environmental factors.

In agriculture, IP66 Linear Actuators are used in tractors, harvesters, and irrigation systems to ensure they can withstand the challenges of dusty and wet environments.

In medical equipment, especially in surgery and diagnostics, precise Actuators are required that are resistant to cleaning and sterilization procedures.

In shipping and marine applications, IP66 Linear Actuators are used in various systems, including controls for ship cranes, hatches, and valves.

In construction machinery and equipment that operate outdoors and in dusty environments, IP66 Linear Actuators are necessary to protect the electronic components.

In power generation, particularly in hydroelectric plants, IP66 Linear Actuators are used to control gates and valves.

6. Pro and Cons

Cons

Cost: JC60DN Linear Actuators are generally more expensive than non-protected models, as they require special seals and construction.

Weight and Size: The additional protective measures can increase the weight and size of the Linear Actuator, which may be a disadvantage in cases of limited installation space.

Pros

Dust Protection: Linear Actuators JC60DN are dust-tight and provide reliable protection against the ingress of solid particles such as dust and dirt. This is advantageous in dusty work environments or heavy industry.

Water Protection: They are waterproof and can withstand high-pressure water jets or splashes. This is particularly important in humid or wet environments or outdoor applications where rain is a factor.

Reliability: The protection against environmental influences offers high reliability and a longer lifespan for the electronic components.

Versatility: They can be used in a wide range of industries and applications, including industrial automation, food processing, environmental technology, and more.

Safety: By being protected from moisture and dust, they contribute to the safety of equipment and machinery and reduce the risk of malfunctions or failures.

FAQs about Linear Actuators

  1. Extremo roscado
  2. Cabeza articulada
  3. Cabeza de rótula
  4. Placa de brida
  5. Placa de brida con cojinete
  6. Pivote
